Monday 5 February: Arriving in Akaroa

We arrived at our next port of call, Akaroa.  This is a gem of a place, situated in part of an old volcano and is a stepping off point for Christchurch.

Before the disastrous earthquake of 2011, ships docked in Lyttelton, a port just a few miles from Christchurch.  The earthquake damaged the quayside there so much that ships now have to go to Akaroa until the port of Lyttleton is able to be reopened to larger ships  The main downside is that Akaroa is a 90-minute drive from Christchurch.



Norwegian Jewel was also in Akaroa, having been in Picton the day before
