Tuesday 6 February: Wellington - From Ship to Cable Car

We left the ship and headed for the cable car station via one or two shops.  Elizabeth wanted a Pandora charm of New Zealand and Graeme needed a spectacle repair.  His glasses had fallen apart while walking along the front at Akaroa.  Although we had brought a spectacle repair kit with us, the screws and sockets for them are so microscopic and it's to hard to engage the screw in the socket that we decided we needed a shop.

But this was New Zealand's national day, one of the public holidays of the year. We were in luck. As in other arts of New Zealand they have volunteer guides out and about and, as we got off the free shuttle bus (courtesy of Wellington city), there were guides there. One of them happily phoned around and discovered that a Specsavers nearby were indeed open.

We went in and got a repair done for $6 (£3) but it did take the lady in the shop quite a while to fix them.

The base station for the cable car is don a narrow arcade between the shops
