Thursday 8 February: Tauranga - Day Trip: Okere Falls and a Not So Shaggy Dog Story

This is something that was on the usual itinerary on today's trip but which we couldn't visit.  The Okere Falls are popular with both general tourists and with those who like whitewater thrills.

The problem was that a recent landslip had washed away part of the short access path, making a visit impossible.

And a not so shaggy dog story ....
In Edinburgh they remember the devotion of 'Greyfriars Bobby'.  Near Rotorua they remember a dog who was distinguished in a different sort of way.  Harawene - meaning 'free spirit' was a rather territorial little dog who appeared by the roadside one day out of the blue and who guarded the same spot for many years until the road finally claimed her life when she was in her old age.
